John K. Kwok joined West & Associates soon after its founding in 2004. Mr. Kwok is the managing attorney at West & Associates and is responsible for coordinating all prosecution, transactional and litigation matters. In addition to counseling clients in matters relating to the litigation and licensing of intellectual property rights, Mr. Kwok’s practice also includes counseling clients in obtaining, protecting and enforcing rights associated with patents, trademarks, service marks, trade names, trade secrets and copyrights.
Mr. Kwok has extensive experience in obtaining, protecting and enforcing rights associated with patents, trademarks, service marks, trade names, trade secrets and copyrights. The technical fields of Mr. Kwok’s practice includes architecture and fabrication of semiconductor devices, holographic optical elements, optical networking, optical data transmission, mechanical devices including toys and sporting equipment, and technology related to mechanical, electrical and computer science.
Mr. Kwok holds a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Columbia University, School of Engineering and Applied Science (1988), a J.D. from New York Law School (1993) and a LL.M in International Legal Studies from New York University School of Law (1995).
Prior to joining West & Associates, Mr. Kwok was an associate attorney with Fliesler Meyer LLP in San Francisco, California (2003 – 2004) where he was a colleague of West & Associates’ founder, Stuart West. At Fliesler Mr. Kwok specialized in U.S. and international intellectual property law. Prior to re-locating to California, Mr. Kwok was with Lieberman & Nowak (now merged with Dickstein Shapiro Morin & Oshinsky) in New York City (2000 – 2003) where he specialized in U.S and international patent law and intellectual property litigation.
Mr. Kwok was admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey in 1994. He began his legal career in the field of commercial litigation. He spent four years as a litigator at the Wall Street firm of Lambert and Weiss, where he handled complex commercial litigation cases.
Mr. Kwok is licensed to practice law in California (2004), New York (1994) and New Jersey (1994). Mr. Kwok is also registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (2000).
Mr. Kwok is an active member of the San Francisco chapter of the Licensing Executives Society (LES), the American Bar Association (ABA), National Association of Asian American Professionals (NAAAP), the San Francisco and Silicon Valley Intellectual Property Law Associations (SFIPLA & SVIPLA), the Monte Jade Science and Technology Association (MJST), and the Asian American Bar Association of the Greater Bay Area (ABAGBA).
